Bernard Shinner is listed in the Lloyds Bank memorial album. Lists he was employed in the Leominster branch.
No record of him on CWGC - service record shows he served in Mesopotamia and was discharged 14/2/19. He was awarded the Silver War Badge.
Found him on the death indexes in England as having died sometime in the last quarter of 1919 in Kidderminster.
This site: http://www.teme-valley.co.uk/roll_of_honour2.html has some more detail:
Quote: | 141054 Gunner Bernard Shinner
Royal Garrison Artillery
Died of Wounds 17th December 1919 Kidderminster Hospital
Buried in St John's, Kidderminster
Gunner Shinner was the youngest son of Walter Shinner (cashier at Lloyds Bank Tenbury) he was a pupil at Tenbury C of E School where he is remembered on the Memorial Plaque in the school hall and in St Marys Church Tenbury. Gunner Shinner was in a invalid home, following service in Mesopotamia where he contracted Malarial fever and concussion caused by heavy gun fire. He died in Kidderminster Hospital and the Funeral took place at St John's Church, Kidderminster. |
Obviously we need to link the death to war service - I take it death certificate is the next step? |

David - have you found his service or pension record?
and if so, does it state that his illness was due to military service?
Without that I think you'd be wasting your money on a death cert. _________________ Ken |

I have his service record. There appears to be some medical information but it's quite faint and is actually split between two pages - I might need to do some work in Photoshop to be able to read it. |

OK - finally found his service record.
Ancestry has it indexed as
Name:
Beenach Shinner
Gender:
Male
Birth Date:
abt 1881
Enlistment Age:
34
Document Year:
1915
Residence Place:
50 Etnam St, Leominster
Regimental Number:
141054RGA
Regiment Name:
Royal Garrison Artillery
The second last page "Statement of the services of 141054 Bernard Shinner"
has "Discharged 14-2-19 Nervous Instability Agg. (aggravated) by Service"
The earlier notes seem to refer Neurasthenia which I think is "shell-shock".
If the death certificate gives that as the cause of death (unlikely????) then he is a non-comm. _________________ Ken |
