I've just PURCHASED the excellently researched and compiled book called LOUS MC GUFFIE VC. , The Story of WIGTOWN'S WAR HERO . by Mike Morley and Jack Hunter . (2018 ) & published by Royal Burgh Of Wigtown & District Community Council

ISBN 978 -1-5272-1874-1

Mike Morley is one of our members here and I congratulate him and his historian colleague on the fine publication they have put together for the local hero louis Mc Guffie , VC , Kings Own Scottish Borderers killed in action on 4th October 1918 and his Mother had to attend Buckingham Palace to be presented her son's Victoria Cross as he had been killed in action .

The publication is on sale for £9.50 . The book can be bought from AMAZON and at various events in and around Wigtown where Mike is giving talks on the hero and the Memorial Arch in the town in memory of the VC holder

Maybe Mike will add more info here

Thanks Pat, that's very kind of you to plug the book! As an old sweat who I used to work with said, "Never volunteer for anything." So, I volunteered but we're quite pleased with the outcome. All profits go back to the Wigtown community. I'm quietly dreading my gigs at Wigtown Book Festival - one on the McGuffie book, followed by one on my research on all who went off from Wigtown to serve their country. The KOSB (Louis' regiment) have been very positive about the book and I hope we have conveyed the life of an ordinary lad who did something extraordinary. I will open a new thread on the McGuffie archway when it is completed and update the VC slab thread when done. Next week I'll be giving the local school children a McGuffie related town tour - which should be fun!
