LESWALT MAN MISSING.
Mrs Caldwell, Dhuloch Mains, Leswalt, Stranraer, is anxious for news of her son. He is Private Sam Caldwell (no 1877), 1/5th Royal Scots Fusiliers, who went missing at the Dardanelles on 12th July last year, and no news has been received about his whereabouts or fate since that memorable date. Pte Caldwell enlisted in November 1914. When he signed up to the Army, he was only 19 years of age. He was formerly a farm servant at Northcairn. Anyone who can furnish information about him should contact Mrs Caldwell directly.

Her regular soldier son killed first and then another in the territorials. The 12th July 1915 was a terrible day for the southern counties of Scotland as the 155th (South Scottish) Brigade of the 52nd Division attacked Achi Baba Nullah in Gallipoli and suffered very heavy casualties.

Anne - James Brydson Richardson was a Cameron rather than a Gordon and was a brother to Robert.
The family grave is in Leswalt Churchyard (photo'ed by Mike Morley)
