FLODDEN MEMORIAL

Flodden Field needs no introduction to the Scots.
The battle was fought on 9 September 1513 in Northumberland, and resulted in disaster for the Scots army.
It was said of Flodden that whichever side had won, victory could not have brought more than passing glory, and nobody had gained anything.

The memorial unveiled in 1910 is in memory of all the dead.

"Flodden 1513 : To The Dead of Both Nations"

"I've heard the lilting, at the yowe-milking,
Lasses a-lilting before dawn o' day;
But now they are moaning on ilka green loaning;
"The Flowers of the Forest are a' wede away".
