Further Info

F/Sgt J.S. Keay was the Wireless Operator on 83 Sqn Lancaster R5256 OL-M that had departed RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire at 1950 on 03/04/43 for Ops Essen

Over the target area, it was coned by 1/Flakscheinw Abt 518 then subsequently engaged by; 3/I Flak Rgt 42 (MOS S), 1 & 3/schw Flak Abt 174, 2/schw Flak Abt 353, 2/schw Flak Abt 213 and 4/schw Flak Abt 462, hit and shot down

The aircraft crashed in Kruppstrasse, Essen at 2302 with the loss of all seven crew
