Very interesting the David was living with Uncle. Is there anything special about Dalbeattie school that he would be there, or can anyone think of a reason why he might be living away from parents?

Might be because his father was the Rector that he wasn't allowed to attend Aberfeldy Academy? or didn't want to???

One more bit of info.
On 21 April 1885 Alexander Grieve, a Teacher of Grindley St. Edinburgh, married Martha Margaret Clark of Burnside Cottage Dalbeattie, at Burnside Cottage, Dalbeattie.

I'll try to find out if Alexander was a teacher at Dalbeattie School.

I had a very interesting chat with a woman who remembers Rector Grieve. Said he was a really nice chap. She also informed me, that a member of Alex McLaren's family is still alive, and I will be able to have a chat with him soon. Really look forward to that.

Excellent Dhubthaigh. I haven't been here for a while, and have just noticed this. I was in touch with a relative in Australia who could I'm afraid add no more details, he did however put me in touch with a close living relative-who lives opposite me. Unfortunately, he has no information on the man either.

Thanks for that, and all your hard work here.
