The memorial in this case is a photograph of the Dalry Town Hall memorial http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1758. Normally I would not consider a photograph of a memorial to be a memorial itself but I think we need to look to the purpose of the photograph. The building is an Ex Servicemen's Club built after the end of the Great War (source of funds not known) and is a source of recreation for ex servicemen, no bar but snooker and carpet bowls. Sometime after the Dalry Town Hall memorial was unveiled (probably soon after) it was photographed by J Cumming who worked in the post office and the photograph was framed and placed on the wall of the ex servicemen's club in a prominent position. It is now fading gracefully along with the rest of the building.
Given its position and purpose, I consider this to be a memorial in its own right. It also forms a usefuly comparison with the current memorial which is exactly the same except that WW2 panels have been added.

This is now WMR, ex UKNIWM, memorial 72123.
On balance I concur that this is a memorial in its own right, and there is nothing specifically in the national guidelines to suggest otherwise, in fact nothing to cover such an unusual scenario. |
