During 2003 this ROLL OF HONOUR was hanging in the Former Shooting Lodge - then being used as the Glen Esk Folk Museum , Glen Esk , Angus then shortly after this date the old building was demolished except for the front area and a new building erected in its place . The new museum section to the rear was added on the second phase and is smaller than the original museum .

The Roll of honour listed the casualties for Memuir School in the Great War and listed 46 names of those who served in that Great War . I have taken this info from a photograph (pre diggy camera ) :

The wording records :

Roll of Honour of Memuir School .

The Following gave their Lives :

Cpl George Anderson - Canadian Expedititionary Force

Pte Don Clyne - Cameron Highlanders

Pte Roy Coates - Royal Scots

Trooper William Garvie - Canadian Mounted Rifles

Trooper David Haggart - Lovat Scouts

Gunner Robert Mudie - Motor Machine Gun Service

Pte James Murray - 3/5 Black Watch

Pte Alexander Taylor - Gordon Highlanders

Pte Ben Taylor - Gordon Highlanders

Pte Andrew Todd - Black Watch

L/Cpl David Winter - Royal Engineers

The following served :

then there are two rows of names and regiments /corps of those who served . 46 names in all

Down both sides of this Roll of Honour there are the Regimental Badges of the Regiments /Corps listed

.

This roll of honour has not appeared again in the new and smaller Museum of the Glen Esk Folk museum

COURIER & ADVERTISER Monday 9th November 2009 : Angus & Mearns editions:

A wall hanging featuring the names of former pupils of MENMUIR PRIMARY SCHOOL who served in the First World War is to be returned to the Local Community.

It originally hung in the school on the closure of which it was found its way to the Retreat Folk Museum in Glen Esk.

Both communities felt it was appropriate to return it to Menmuir and it will be unveiled at a special ceremony in MENMUIR HALL on Friday at 8pm by James Carnegie - Arbuthnott.

The ceremony will include a talk from Agnes Lowden on the military history of the area.
