Located in the former RFC & RAF Montrose airfield now called the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre , Montrose Angus is this Memorial


WHITLEY LA 837 - 19 OTU - A Flight

IN MEMORY OF

Sgt T P W Barrett

P/O SJ Stenning

Sgt J R C Rugeroni- Hope

Sgt J Douglas

Sgt A P Wilson


From Flt Lt R T Mitchell OC Cadets and Staff

1145 Dunfermline Squadron ATC


This metal Plaque is within the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre . They were on a training flight at 1035 hours from its 19 OTU base but around 1700hours that day all contact was lost and the bomber had crashed into a hillside ( 2000 ft above sea level ) near Cromdale & 6 miles E .E. N of Grantown on Spey , Morayshire . Some of the crew died at the scene , one died later of his injuries and one survived .

19 OTU were based at RAF Forres until late 1944 and was responsible for training aircrew fro Bomber Command. The memorial to 19 OTU is in the Moray region.

This looks to be the location: NJ015581 by the A96 a short distance west of Forres.

Perhaps I should have elaborated; the 19 OTU Memorial is in the Moray region of this forum
