Although I 'recognise' a good number of names it would be useful to know what area each Court No. refers to.

There was a Forester's Hall at 175 High Street in Perth where the following two courts met and I assume where this memorial originally hung.

Court 6241 was 'Fair Maid of Perth' (met alternate Mondays)
Court 6914 was 'Hall O'The Wynd' (met alternate Tuesdays)

The Juvenille Court was 'Hope of Perth' and I presume it also met at the Forester's Hall.

I also presume that because the other Courts are not listed in the Perth Post Office Directory then they were not in Perth and this is a memorial for Perthshire Foresters. If that is the case can the towns where the other courts met be identified from the names on this memorial compared to other Perthshire civc memorials or the Golden Book?

p.s. 175 High St Perth was later a branch of the Halifax Building Society. Don't know what it is now since the Halifax merged with Bank of Scotland and then was taken over by Lloyds Bank so don't know if you still get Halifax branches. Because it is pedestrianised you can't see that part of the High Street on Google Maps Street View.

Thanks

Adam

It might actually cover more than Perthshire.

I've found a reference to Court 5882 being the 'Lady Norton' from Alloa. A quick check on the Alloa War Memorial shows some of these names. Unforunately Alloa lists names by unit and then alphabeticall so I couldn't check them all but it was enough to convince me that Court 5882 on this memorial is from Alloa.

That still leaves these Courts to identify and if 5882 was in Clackmannanshire they could be from anywhere in Central Scotland.

Court 6467
Court 6581
Court 6707
Court 6737
Court 6756
Court 6774
Court 7215

Dundee district of the Foresters seemed to cover Dundee, Angus and East Fife so Perth District may have covered Perthshire, Clackmannanshire and possibly Kinross-shire.

Kinross was Court 6372 Michael Bruce but there may not have been any fatalities from that Court.

Dundee District for reference

http://www.archive.org/stream/dundeedirectory189798dund#page/n117/mode/1up

Dundee Court 5715 Dundee
Admiral Duncan Court 6214 Dundee
Robin Hood Court 6273 Dundee
University Court 7152 Dundee
Royal Oak Court 6366 Broughty Ferry
Mansfield Court 7035 Tayport
Dalhousie Court 7036 Carnoustie
Elmwood Court 7133 Lochee
Starthtay Court 8286 (Women only) Dundee

Dundee district also covers courts in Arbroath, Montrose, Brechin, Forfar (Court 6540 Beech Hill), Kirriemuir, Alyth, Coupar-Angus, Glamis, Crail, Anstruther and Pitenweem.

I have now amended the title of this thread to reflect the fact this memorial covers Perth District of the AOF.

Thanks

Still negotiating with Perth&Kinross Council re housing the memorial in a suitable location-no success so far but working away! Memorial still safe and well in storage.

I`m glad to report that the Memorial has been accepted by the Black Watch Museum and will be relocated there over the next week.Discussions are ongoing about its short term display/storage until the Museum`s new redevelopment takes place.

Great news, and I'll second the thanks to the kind people of Perth who went to a lot of trouble to save this memorial.
