Thanks Stuart - I've updated the entry for Todd
I did find his MIC which also shows "D of W" and that he was in the 7th Battalion, however 1914-18.net relates that Battalion was reduced to cadre on 10/6/1918 with almost 400 troops transferred to the 6th Battalion _________________ Ken |

Not listed on the memorial, but he grew up in the town before leaving for the army as a young man.

"News has been received that Corporal William Cowan, of the 2nd Scots Guards, a native of Kirkbean, Kirkcudbrightshire, was killed in a night attack on the German trenches on December 18. Corporal Cowan joined the Army as a youth, and on completing his term of service he was engaged as a fireman in a private fire brigade in London, and afterwards acted as a school janitor at Berkshire Road School, South Hackney, under the London County Council. On the outbreak of war he offered his services as an instructor and later volunteered for the front."
