It's a shame that it has been attacked with brasso, it must have looked splendid in its original bronze finish

I agree with you Paul.
Even enlarging the photo of the Nurses Memorial (1939-1945) it is impossible to read the names, I can just make out Grace Logan, Agnes Moore, Mcmillan and possibly M'cay.
What a pity!!

Anne
I was just about to post the same details as yourself.
Interestingly Logan and Sim would have been with Jean Morrison on SS.Kuala and may well have served with her. I suspect that McMillan may have died at the hands of the Japanese but sometime I will check Jean's documents.
all sorted now, pity about the memorial though.

When I saw the 'S.S. Kuala' I thought about Jean.
I suppose on the positive side - at least it's a cared for memorial brasso'd or not.

Searched for s.s. kaulu 1942 and found a WORD document giving details of many of those lost including Logan, McMillan and Sim (plus Jean Morrison) .
The document originates from the malayanvolunteersgroup.org.uk
It does explain the death of McMillan who was taken ill at a "camp hospital", operated on by a Japanese surgeon and found to have cancer. _________________ Ken |

Yes spotted that -- (eventually)
The annoying thing is when going thro' the "Kuala" listing I spotted another nurse from Isle of Arran. Can I find her again NO. _________________ Ken |

The following might be of interest. Many of the survivors of the SS Kuala, who made it to Pom Pong Island, were picked up by the SS Tanjong Penang that set course for Batavia but was intercepted by the Japanese on 17th February 1942 and sunk. The following names are the casualties of that sinking who have a recorded Scottish connection. The headings above the names are the CWGC ROH Cemetery Reference.
SINGAPORE MEMORIAL
FOWLER, Marjorie H.T. – Sister QAIMNS – Invernessshire
S.S. “TANJONG PENANG”
BREBNER, Margaret – Matron (Civilian) – Aboyne, Abderdeenshire
MILNE, Barbara Jane – Sister (Civilian) – New Deer, Aberdeenshire
ROSS, Isabella – Nurse (Civilian) –Abington, Lanarkshire
SCOTT, Jessie Dow - Matron (Civilian) – Carnock, Fifeshire
THOMSON, J.Y. – Nurse (Civilian) – Edinburgh
The Jean Morrison that Anne and I were referring to was the Great Aunt of a friend of Annes and by shear coincidence I have just learnt today that CWGC have accepted her as a War Casualty after a 2 ½ year wait since I presented her case. She also has a Scottish (Glasgow) connection,
