This is unusual in that, rather than giving regimental details, it gives the addresses of those killed.

Also at Eckford is the grave of the nephew of Piper Laidlaw, VC.

The men of the Eckford area who died in WW2 were commemorated on a brass plaque in the kirk. As this has now closed, the plaque was moved to the village hall which is kept locked. It was felt appropriate that their names should be added to the stone cross and this has now been done and the stone rededicated on 11.11.2015. ANDREW ARMSTRONG, KERSKNOWE.
Andrew Armstrong – age 26 – Private (184030) 10th Battalion, Canadian Infantry.
Andrew was farming when he enlisted at Calgary, Alberta in December 1915. He sailed from Halifax, Nova Scotia in June 1916 and joined his battalion in France at the end of August but he was wounded a month later and died in the 6th General Hospital in Rouen.
Born 1890 at Mosstower in Eckford. Son of John and Caroline (Wilson) Armstrong of Kersknowe, Eckford.
Died of Wounds on 1 October 1916 and buried in St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France.
Also named on the Kelso War Memorial.


JAMES BOYLE, MARLEFIELD.
James Boyle – age 28 – Private (21751) 7th/8th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
James was a ploughman at Marlefield, Eckford when he enlisted.
Born 1888 in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire. Son of the late John Boyle (died 1909) and of Margaret (Moore) Boyle of Eckford and of Roxburgh Newtown, Roxburghshire.
Missing in Action on 24 January 1917 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.
Also named on the Kelso War Memorial.


GEORGE CRERAR, BOWMONT FOREST.
George Gow Crerar – age 25 – Private (16594) 7th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
George enlisted in Kelso in November 1914 and landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915 but he was killed two months later during the battle of Loos.
Born 1889 in Melmerby, Penrith, Cumberland. Son of Alexander and Mary (Campbell) Crerar of Melmerby.
Missing in Action on 25 September 1915 and named on the Loos Memorial, France.
Also named on the Eckford Parish Church Roll of Honour now in Eckford Community Hall, on the Kelso War Memorial and on the Melmerby War Memorial.


ANDREW KERR, ORMISTON.
Andrew Kerr – age 24 – Private (47504) 32nd Battalion, Machine Gun Corps.
Born 1894 at Ormiston Farm in Eckford. Son of the late John Kerr (died 1911) of Ormiston Mill and of Elizabeth Smith (Cochrane) Kerr of Nottylees, Kelso.
Killed in Action on 18 September 1918 and buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Kelso War Memorial.

ROBERT B. McGEORGE, MAINHOUSE.
Robert Bryden McGeorge – age 43 – Private (28955) Royal Army Veterinary Corps, transferred as Private (547835) to the 454th Agricultural Company of the Labour Corps.
Robert McGeorge was brought up by his grandparents John and Sarah Bryden in Dalry, Kirkcudbrightshire and spent most of his life in that county. In 1891 he was a farm servant in Balmaclellan, in 1901 he was a ploughman, living with his wife and family in Kirkmabreck and in 1911 they were at Southwick. They came to Mainhouse in Eckford in 1914 and he died there of influenza and pneumonia while still on military service with the Labour Corps.
Born 1876 in Dalry, Kirkcudbrightshire as Robert McGeorge Bryden. Son of the late Margaret Bryden. Husband of Mary Agnes (McKie) McGeorge of Burnside Cottage, Earlston, Berwickshire who he married in 1895 in Crossmichael, Kirkcudbrightshire.
Died on Service on 10 February 1919 and buried in Eckford Parish Churchyard. (CWG)
Also named on the Kelso War Memorial.


JOHN JAMES NEILLANS, EASTER WOODEN.
John James Neillans – age 23 – Private (S/6559) 9th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
John was a farm servant when he enlisted in October 1914. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915 but was killed two months later during the battle of Loos.
Born 1892 in Linton, Roxburghshire. Son of Robert and Isabella (Fairley) Neillans of Easter Wooden Farm, of Caverton Mill, Eckford and of Gateshaw, Morebattle, Roxburghshire.
Killed in Action on 25 September 1915 and buried in Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, France.
The bodies of 41 men of the 9th Black Watch were brought to the cemetery from positions a little west of Loos in 1919.
Also named on the Eckford Parish Church memorial now in Eckford Community Hall, on the Linton Parish Church memorial and on the Kelso War Memorial.


WILLIAM RUDDIMAN, BOWMONT FOREST.
William Ruddiman – age 25 – Lance Corporal (16593) 7th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
William was trained as a forester by his father and worked at Scone Palace, Perth and at Bowmont Forest, Floors Castle, from where he enlisted in November 1914. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in July 1915 but was killed two months later during the battle of Loos.
Born 1890 at Rothes Estate, Leslie Fife. Son of Walter and Jane (Dunn) Ruddiman of Foresters Lodge, Rothes Estate, Leslie, Fife.
Missing in Action on 25 September 1915 and named on the Loos Memorial, France.
Also named on the Eckford Parish Church memorial now in Eckford Community Hall, on the Kelso War Memorial, on the Leslie Burgh and Parish War Memorial and on the Scone Parish War Memorial.
