UKNIWM – Not Listed

In Glasgow Cathedral OS Map Ref NS 590 650

I did not find any explanatory plaque for this ensign or to say when it was laid up. The cathedral guide book merely states this is the ensign of 602 City of Glasgow Auxiliary Fighter Squadron.

Can someone clarify if these colours are actually memorials ( war memorials) , or not ? I appreciate there may be campaigns on some of them, but does that make them a memorial.

A pertinent point. I have posted some laid up colours before, purely as a matter of interest.
There may be some direction required as we move forward as a society.

This colour commemorates 602 Squadron RAuxAF, and on the colour are battle honours for the Second World War.

To me this is a memorial commemorating Glasgow's RAF volunteers in WW2

The War Memorials Trust's fairly broad criteria for a war memorial posted by Mark in another thread would seem to cover this as a war memorial.

As long as the inscription...links it to the remembrance of a war or conflict then it is considered to be a war memorial...War memorials can commemorate those who served during a war and survived.

I would take this to refer to a memorial, in the normal sense, with an inscription upon it. I am not aware of a Colour being used by military units as a point of memorialisation of individuals.
That is my opinion, but if we are now adopting the London based War Memorials Trust view, fine.
