Dugie

Thanks for the update, it's good to know you are keeping an eye on things.

I take it the memorial is on private land but there is no problems in going up the road to visit it?

There is certainly a case here for moving the memorial to a more central location. When it was first erected I'm sure there were fewer trees and shrubs at the roadside and it would have been very prominent to those travelling north as well as south. As it is you cannot see it if you are travelling north and I take it the landowner will not remove the trees which are blocking the view.

Other memorials have been moved from their out-of-village locations into the community over the years - Bettyhill in Sutherland is an example - so there's no reason this one shouldn't moved too if there's a will and the funding locally to do it.

Kin regards

Adam

Thanks for your interest, Adam.
I am over on the other side of the Atlantic, so am out of touch most of the time.
However, a resident of Minard, Leonard Mc Neill, has taken responsibility for the welfare of the Memorial, has had a survey done and appraisal made of the cost of repairs which he submitted to the County Council. Seems no money is available for upkeep, so I wrote to the M.P. for Argyll, who has been in touch with the Council, so time will tell. Mr. Mc Neill has his finger on the pulse!!!
The Roll of Honour, in the village Hall, listing all who served in WW1, has been refurbished and a service of rededication was held with good attendance, also a service of Remembrance at the Memorial was conducted in November, so the memory of those who gave their lives is alive again.
Access to the Memorial is from the road up to Barr Farm and is easy with a short, 50 yd. walk to the site.

And so the tale continues.......and nothing has been done.
It must be about six years since I last wrote, and the only progress is that Mr. Mc Neil managed to get an Argyll County Counillor to look at the pathetic apology for a memorial.
So much for the sacrifice made by these young men.
Appalling!!!!!!!
