Hi Guys
Matt here from The Neilston War memorial Association
We are campaigning to get a memorial built in Neilston East Renfrewshire.
We are near £15k but have a long way to go to get this monument built.

We have have a list of soldiers who have died in all conflicts from ww1 to present but we might need some help cross referencing this,to make sure we have not omitted any one form the list of dead who will be commemorated in this new monument in Neilston.

Fantastic site

Cheers Matt

Hi Matt, welcome

You may already have done this, but just in case there is a trick you aren't aware of ...............

Go to http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/searchswm.php and put Neilston in as place of birth and it comes up with 133 names, all with links to the Scottish National War Memorial records - plenty for you to check there.

Then try
http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/sxH4H.php?value=1&pageno=1
where you can find 61 names with links to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Records.

Then also http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/sxww2.php?value=-1 where there are a further 27 names for WW2 linked to CWGC records.

There is the Boer war memorial at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=3303&highlight=neilston if the names there are within your scope.

And the window in the catholic church at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=3318&highlight=neilston

Also the primary school memorial at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5338&highlight=neilston in fact, probably best to just use this forum's search for Neilston and see what it picks up.

Finally, the War Memorials Trust has some free and impartial advice on creating new war memorials at http://www.warmemorials.org/uploads/publications/49.pdf

This is Crumyard farm where Matthew lived. This is situated just outside Neilston on the road to Uplawmoor.

Matt

Although a starting point for research, you need to be aware that the casualty might never have lived at the address on CWGC.
