Ibrox Parish Church, Clifford Street, Glasgow G51 1QL

OS Grid Ref:-NS 560642

The church first started out as "Bellahouston Parish Church", but as the result of two unions with neighbouring churches, Steven Memorial in 1969 and Ibrox in 1978, the name was changed to Ibrox Parish Church. www.ibroxparishchurch.co.uk

On the BELLAHOUSTON AND STEVEN MEMORIAL there is a DAVID E CROSBIE.
David Eglington Crosbie attested as Private 5300 in the 2/9th Highland Light Infantry in December 1915 giving his occupation as a clerk, his age as 19 (had been born in 1897) and his next-of-kin as his father William of 1 Kirkwood Street, Ibrox.
He stayed in the UK until the end of August 1916 when he was transferred to the 14th Battalion of the London Regiment (the London Scottish) and from then until 11 October he was in France.
He was wounded on 4 October and evacuated home, via hospital in Etaples, and was eventually discharged as not longer fit for service on 23 March 1917. At the end of that year he boarded the "Nyanza" bound for Calcutta however he was drowned (with 48 others) during an attack by the German submarine U53 off the Lizard.
His mother,Robina S Crosbie, applied for and was granted his campaign medals in June 1922; however, as he was a civilian at the time, his death is not recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. See http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?p=71079#71079
