The BBC SCotland News reports that the main stand at Whitestone Park in Peebles has been named the Alexander Lucas Stand in memory of Alec Lucas who died in Afghanistan in 2008.

Alec Lucas died in November 2008 following an explosion while on patrol in Helmand province.

An annual football tournament in his honour was held at the weekend and helped reach the funding landmark.

Ahead of the kick-off, the main stand at Whitestone Park in Peebles was renamed the Alexander Lucas Stand.

The marine's father, Adrian, said it was a proud moment.

"The naming of the stand, that was a lovely touch for Alec - fantastic recognition for him," he said.
