Hi Sandy, on the day of the dedication of the Cowie War Memorial, I was presented by the Paras Association, details of the two Cowie Paras who are remembered on the memorial. I was able to pass on the information to the family of Pte. William McMillan, but unfortunaitly there was no member of the Chalmer's family present on the day, I still have this information somewhere umong my files. I am going on holiday tomorrow, but if you get in touch with me after the New Year, I would be delighted to send this info on to you.

William Stevenson.

I've a question: on this memorial, there is a John Lough (WW1). Is he the same man as the one on the Plean memorial? If so, does anyone have any info on him? I'm trying to find out about all the people named there...
Here's hoping,

Official notification has been received by Mrs. Lough, 40 Normandale, Castlecary, that her brother, Private John Hutchison, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders was killed in action on 14th November last. Twenty years of age, Private Hutchison enlisted in October 1914, prior to which he was in the employment of Plean Colliery Company. About six months ago, Private Lough, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, husband of Mrs. Lough was killed in action.

I think this will be the same John Lough who is listed on the Plean Civic Memorial, see:
