John McEwan, who served in the Lanarkshire Yeomanry and spent several years in a Japanese prisoner of war camp, wrote a book about his experiences, detail can be found here.

John passed away on 27th February 2008. I believe he was cremated but this stone may have been updated to record his passing since I photographed it.
