Location: Forgewood, Motherwell.

This cemetery is now classed as "non-operational" by North Lanarkshire Council. It has effectively been abandoned, although the grass is kept cut.

A word of warning to anyone considering visiting - this cemetery is in a fairly rough area, the cemetery is very badly vandalised in places, and is a haven for "neds", alkies, junkies and the like. I would exercise caution if planning to visit and DO NOT VISIT ALONE.

The men buried here and commemorated by the CWGC were for a long time given an "alternative commemoration" in nearby Airbles Cemetery - the stone in the photos below is of that commemoration. The plan is to place new stones in the Globe Cemetery but at the moment that has not taken place (and I am not sure they would be able to guarantee their safety given the nature of the situation there).
