City of Glasgow RoH

MURRAY, Nathaniel- Regimental Sergeant Major, Royal Scots Greys residing at 42 McKinlay Street, SS.

Recorded in The SNWM
Era WW1
Surname MURRAY
Forename Nathaniel
Rank WO1 (RSM)
Service number 4581
Decoration
Place of birth Glasgow
Date of death 9 July 1916
Theatre of death Home
Cause of death Died
SNWM roll THE ROYAL SCOTS GREYS (2nd DRAGOONS)
Unit name In or attached to THE ROYAL SCOTS GREYS 2nd DRAGOONS

MIC exits and he is recorded on Soldier's Effects and Pension Record states he was discharged because he contracted TB which ties in with his DC.
However he is not listed on GWGC. Info sent to Terry at IFTC, interesting reply, I wasn't aware of the "Chelsea Form".

Quote:
When looking at pension records, we need the pages stating whether the condition was due to/aggravated by service. It is not a qualification simply to contract an illness in service even if it was in France.

The vital text is usually found on the 'Chelsea Form' as attached - sometimes on subsequent more detailed medical assessment sheets.

As you can see below, this man's Chelsea has the required comment so this man can go forward as his DC also says TB as cause of death.

Well spotted

I see he has Order of St. George listed in his medals. Anyone have knowledge of this award?

Found this quote from an old thread on GWF

"The 2nd Class Medals are very rare, as approx only 125 were Gazetted to the whole Commonwealth forces for WW1".
