From London Gazette 30/5/1916 p.5407

Temp. Lt. Alexander James Begg. 17th Bn.,
High. L.I.
For conspicuous gallantry. He organised
and led a successful raid on the enemy's
trenches, and, though wounded, continued to
exhibit great dash and courage.
