If you're interested in Family History in Scotland, a good place to start is the SAFHS. Their website will also give you links to the Society based in your area of interest.

Click on "Membership List" for the full list of SAFHS member Societies.
Speaking from experience, I'm a member of Lanarkshire and I have been a member of Dumfries and Galloway in the past. You're sure to get a warm welcome and meet many friendly folk if you attend a meeting, and it's useful to share knowledge with like-minded people.
