IN MEMORY OF LIEUTENANT WILLIAM BRIGGS/ INTERPRETER AND QUARTERMASTER/ 20TH REGT BENGAL NATIVE INFANTRY/ MUCH ESTEEMED AND DEEPLY REGRETTED/ BY HIS BROTHER OFFICERS/ WHO ERECTED A TABLET/ TO HIS MEMORY AT MOORSHEDABAD/ WHERE HE DIED IN 1827/ ALSO OF/ MAJOR JAMES BRIGGS KH/ WHO SERVED/ IN THE 91ST 63RD AND 50TH REGIMENTS/ AND WAS SEVERELY WOUNDED/ AT THE SEIGE OF BERGEN-OP-ZOOM/ DIED 3RD APRIL 1855/ THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED AS A TRIBUTE OF AFFECTION BY THEIR SURVIVING BROTHER DAVID BRIGGS COMMANDER RN |
