The chap listed above I've highlighted - just wondering if we have a service number for him?
I was on Scotland's People yesterday downloading images of the Informal Will of L/Cpl. James Maxwell, 1st. Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, Service Nr. S/7426 and the address of beneficiary (wife) is Main Street, Dundonald.
James was killed in Mesopotamia in 1917 and body never recovered. His name is on the Basra Memorial (and checks out with his Service Nr.). His name is on Kilmarnock War Memorial where he was born, enlisted and was mainly associated with.
I know his brother in law lived in Dundonald village and I note that the inscription on Dundonald memorial says "In Memory of those connected with this Parish ..." so does this memorial also refer to L/Cpl. S/7426 James Maxwell?
In which case his name will be remembered on three memorials?

Somebody unconfuse me please. :0)

Believe it or not, there are only 3 James Maxwells who served with the Seaforths listed by CWGC and the other two were Glasgow men (L/Cpl. S/2710 - 8th Bn. and Pte.266417 - 6th Bn.)
I'd say that L/Cpl. S/7426 is your man.

Excellent. Thanks for the reassurance Kenneth. I bought the Informal Will of his (they are newly available from Scotland's People) and when I saw the address - Main Street, Dundonald - I put the numbers together. Walked past this umpteen times and wondered about the name.

Carved on the celtic cross, beneath the wreath: THEY COUNTED NOT THEIR LIVES DEAR UNTO THEMSELVES 1914 - 18

James Morton Maxwell played for Killie, Sheffield Wednesday, Woolwich Arsenal and Carlisle United before coming back to Ayrshire.
Footballers must have been a particular recruiting interest for the Army -
