John Seaton is commemorated on the Bo'ness War Memorial
Private John Seaton, 30, Service No: 242232, Gordon Highlanders 5th Btn. was killed in action on 11/04/1917. His name appears on the Arras Memorial, Grave/Panel Ref: Bay 8 and 9.
We have found the following contemporary newspaper report:
Linlithgowshire Gazette 27/04/1917
KILLED IN ACTION
On Wednesday Mrs John Seton, Philpingstone Terrace, Bo’ness received a letter from a chaplain stating that her husband, Private John Seton, Gordon Highlanders, had been killed in action on the 10th inst. At the close of the letter the chaplain says that deceased was killed instantaneously, and, was buried in the military cemetery at Roclincourt. Private Seton enlisted almost a year ago, and had been in France for about four months, prior to which he was employed as a manager in a local butter shop. He leaves a widow and one child.
There are 32 unidentified burials in Roclincourt Military Cemetery. I read Anne's post at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=10025 It sounds like a similar situation?
Is there sufficient evidence to say that John Seaton is one of these unknown soldiers? What else would be needed?
