Derek has already identified the next man on the list as

ARROLL, Richard. H. Private. Seaforth Highlanders. 386 Byres Road

This is the closest match I could find for Ancill, Sydney. He is not on the Glasgow RoH.

ANCILL, S J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Captain (Dental Surgeon)
Regiment/Service: General List
Date of Death: 04/07/1920
Additional information: (Buried in Baghdad East Jewish Cemetery).
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Spec. Memorial.
Cemetery: BAGHDAD (NORTH GATE) WAR CEMETERY

Yes, this man had me scratching my head also.
The only other possibility i could find, with a similar spelling was the following, who has no obvious Scottish connection.

Name: ANCELL, SYDNEY THOMAS
Initials: S T
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Lancashire Fusiliers
Unit Text: 1st/8th Bn.
Date of Death: 07/08/1915
Service No: 2922
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 58 to 72 or 218 to 219.
Memorial: HELLES MEMORIAL

Cheers,
Derek.

With that sort of name could he have served in another countries armed forces? France, Italy, U.S.A.?

Adam

He might equally have favoured his middle name (Louis? Lionel?) in everyday usage or Isidor might have been contracted to Issy or Izzy.

See this link for the full story of 'Michael Issac Freeman', 15579 of the 17th Highland Light Infantry- a real detective story to trace him, by the Club-

The root website gives details of each other casualty of WW1, and indeed of the club- https://arlingtonbathshistory.wordpress.com/first-world-war/war-memorial/
