Sydney Macdonald – age 31 – Lieutenant, 1/4th Battalion (Queen's Edinburgh Rifles) Royal Scots.
Sydney was educated at Glasgow Academy and by 1911, aged 25, he was farming at Northrig, Morham. He was commissioned in the local Territorial 8th Royal Scots in June 1915 and was promoted in July 1917. He joined the 1/4th Royal Scots in France in April 1918.
Born 1886 in Helensburgh, Rhu, Dunbartonshire. Son of James Macdonald and Eliza Isabella (Campbell) Macdonald, of Invergate, Rhu. Husband of Mary Allan (Macewen) Macdonald of 9 Royal Terrace, Glasgow, of 5 Gillsland Road, Edinburgh and of Garrochty Farm, Kingarth, Bute who he married in 1911 in Hillhead, Glasgow.
Killed in Action on 2 September 1918 and buried in Queant Road Cemetery, Buissy, France.
Also named on the Morham Parish War Memorial, on the Kingarth and Rhu War Memorials and on the Glasgow Academy memorial. _________________ Ken |
