I was in the other day cleaning up the WW1 memorial and thought I would share some pics of the memorials inside, I only have the 'before' for the main plaque, I was too manky to do the 'after'

Not too sure of the mechanics of posting photos so here is links to the photos

The cleaning must have taken some doing - very impressive plaques and window you have.

Here is the RAMC WW2 window , which was put up with subscriptions from the men who worshipped there whilst in training.

Delighted to say that on Thursday 30th October, Newbattle Church are adding an additional plaque beneath the existing memorial,in a very similar style, with the names of Vasiliy Nikitenko MM and Robert Beveridge MM thereon. There will be a showing of the film A Soldiers Return which details the life and times of Robert Beveridge with the unveiling of the memorial thereafter. I have been asked to unveil the plaque and I am very proud to have been given this honour.

If anyone would like to see the film and presentation then you are most welcome, the church opens at 7pm the film starts at 7.30pm and the unveiling around 8.45 to 9pm. Entrance is free and I have made a souvenir booklet which is available for a donation to the church.

Just realised that I had not posted an update on this thread. The night was a great success with about 50 people in attendance, a fund has now been set up to bring all the men of the parish together from all the different memorials and those who are not commemorated in the Parish but hailed from Newbattle. You can view the photos here.

John

Thanks for the update. A very proud day for you - that must make you a local worthy now since you have had the honour of unveiling a memorial.

Here are images of the new plaque
