This memorial is not listed on UKNIWM.

Location is the North East end of the main street in Gatehouse of Fleet.

Lovely surroundings with a bench and pond. There is a very informative plaque next to the memorial explaining the carving.

Spoons

An excellent addition to the war memorial to have an explanation on the symbolism. Pity it doesn't say who designed & carved it and when it was unveiled.

I notice the inscription says 'Lest Ye Forget', not 'Lest We Forget'

Hi Spoons, great photos.
The Nitshill memorial in Glasgow is almost identical. I have already posted Nitshill, is there any chance you could post pics of the explanatory panel onto Nitshill, or could we post a link to the two memorials?
The Nitshill Creetown Cross memorial was by Messrs. Scott & Rae, monumental sculptors of Glasgow, so I assume the Gatehouse of Fleet memorial was also executed by this company.

Gents

I hope you don't mind but I've taken the liberty of posting the photos of the information panels in the Nitshill thread

Add a further brother, Nelson. That makes 4 brothers lost!

From The Scotsman, Tuesday 9th August 1921

    GATEHOUSE-OF-FLEET

The memorial to 88 officers and men of the parishes of Anwoth and Girthon (Gatehouse) who fell in the war was unveiled by Colonel R. F. Dudgeon, C.B., of Cargen, Lord-Lieutenant of the Stewartry. The ceremony was preceded by divine service in Girthon Parish Church, ex-servicemen, under Colonel on the Staff A. M'Culloch of Ardwall, and public bodies marching in procession. The officiating clergy were the Revs. John Stewart, F. R. Lornie, R. B. M'Glashan, and Jenkins. The memorial is a duplicate of the Dupplin Cross, in Creetown granite, and stands in a commanding position.
