That is a very interesting and unusual plaque.
I wonder what story is behind it?

James Waugh – age 30 – Private (67951) 2nd Battalion, Machine Gun Corps.
James had been a farm servant in the Lauder district of Berwickshire for several years before he enlisted. He had returned from leave to his unit in the Army of Occupation just a few days before he drowned while bathing in the Rhine at Monheim in Germany.

Born 1889 in Roxburgh. (Source:1901 census and GROS – Birth Register)
Son of Robert and Elizabeth (White) Waugh of Oakwood, Kirkhope. (Source: Jedburgh Gazette 19/9/1919 p.3)
Died on Service – 3 September 1919.
Commonwealth War Grave – Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.
