This memorial was moved from Tolbooth Street in 1999 because of vandalism. It now sits attached to a house in Fulton Street - near a car park.

In the Forres Gazette

Memorial pays tribute to Tolbooth crash crew

Published: 24 November, 2010

THE FAMILY of airmen killed when their aircraft crashed in Tolbooth Street in 1940 saw a memorial to their loved ones being unveiled on Remembrance Sunday.

Avril Shepherd and her brother Adrian Peter are siblings of Sgt Gaywood, who was among the young men killed when their Whitley training aircraft crashed in the town.

Mrs Shepherd, and her husband, David were also present when the Balnageith War Memorial was dedicated thirteen years ago after being put in place on the site of the former airfield.

I'll get a photograph of the new memorial - when the snow shifts!
