Looks like Earl Haig will be on the move within a year.

From the Evening News 17 June 2009.

Evening News wrote:
Haig statue to move for Tattoo grandstands

THE Earl Haig monument at Edinburgh Castle is set to be moved to accommodate new grandstands for the Tattoo.

Officials are proposing the 85-year-old monument – erected to celebrate the leadership of Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Haig and his work devoted to the welfare of ex-servicemen – is moved to Hospital Square within the castle.

This site is closer to the National War Museum, which houses a collection of Earl Haig-related artefacts.

The plans will be discussed at next week's city council culture and leisure committee ahead of work getting under way on the new stands next year.

Councillor Deidre Brock, the city's culture leader, said: "Moving the Earl Haig statue to the National War Museum in Hospital Square makes sense.

"It will retain a prominent position in a fitting location at Edinburgh Castle, and the relocation will enable the construction of the new Tattoo stands. This would be a sympathetic and proper outcome."

General Euan Loudon, Tattoo chief executive and producer, said: "We are pleased that the monument's relocation adjacent to the National War Museum will further help commemorate and remember the past."

That's very interesting, I wonder if other monuments and memorials on the Esplanade will also be moved?

I believe this memorial is now in place inside Hospital Square and will be unveiled (again) in the very near future.

Thanks

Seems that the Earl Haig memorial was unveiled in its new location by PRINCESS ANNE on Wednesday 16th March 2011.

There was nothing on the tv news about the event and I did not see any newspaper report on this event but a retired BW Major friend said it was reported in the Mail this week ,possibly Thursday.

Some photos of Haig in his new location.

(Try as I might, I could not get these two people to get the hint and move out of the way...)
