UKNIWM Ref: 44454

Location, at west side of A716 between Stranraer and Drummore, just outside Sandhead. OS Map Ref: NX 097 505.

This memorial covers the communities of Stoneykirk, Sandhead and Ardwell.

A nicely dedicated bench is beside the memorial and there is a lovely view out to sea from there (not when I visited, visibility was 50 metres in rain and fog Sad )

As well as this memorial and Portpatrick Memorial, William is also listed on Old Luce (Glenluce). His brother, David McCulloch, HMS Dreadnought, died in the naval hospital in Chatham on 20th June 1916 and was returned home to be buried in Glenluce cemetery.

William's name is spelt McCulloch on his naval service records in the National Archives and his correct date of birth is listed as 27th September 1874, making him 10years older than the CWGC listing.
