From the Glasgow Herald of 3rd December 1956

1918 War Memorial Unveiled

A war memorial erected at Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire, in honour of the men and women from the parish who lost their lives in the First World War, was officially unveiled yesterday by Mrs J. Telfer of Glencaple. Because of a disagreement among parishioners when the memorial was completed, it was never unveiled and no remembrance ceremony ever took place.

The memorial had become overgrown and hidden by trees, but early this year, with subscriptions raised in the parish, the trees were removed, repairs carried out, and the lay-out improved by a surrounding wall. The names of the Second World War dead were added to the east panel.

Thanks to Adam Brown for drawing this to my attention on another thread.

WW2 female listing Catherine Mcdill does not appear on CWGC or SNWM.

It's kind of "odd" that David Bouskill is named on the memorial but that his brother Thomas is not.
Both names appear on the family gravestone in Caerlaverock.
http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=350
and both are named on the Saltcoats War Memorial.
