LESLIE SOLDIER MAKES SUPREME SACRIFICE.
News was received in Leslie yesterday that Private George Borthwick, Black Watch, had been killed in action. His father, Mr George Borthwick, resides at The Croft, Leslie.
The deceased soldier was well known both in his native village and among the miners at Kinglassie, where he was employed before enlisting about twelve months ago. He had been at the front for eight months.

WW1
Pte. James Crawford, G.H.

May also be the same James Crawford listed on the Kinglassie memorial.

(Glasgow Herald 29th April 1915)
"Mr & Mrs James Crawford, Walkerton, Leslie, have been notified that their second son, James, who enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders in September, was killed at the taking of Hill 60. Private Crawford was 20 years of age and had previously worked in Kinglassie pit. Lieutenant A.M. Thom writes that he was a very promising young soldier, whom they were sorry to lose, and mentions that the bullet which pierced Crawford through the heart also killed Private Selbie, of Aberdeen."

WW1
Pte. Peter Anderson, R.H.

(Glasgow herald 25th May 1915)
"Private James Anderson and Private Peter Anderson, Black Watch, sons of Mr Peter Anderson, farmer, Balgothrie, Leslie, aged 27 and 24 years respectively, enlisted aout six months ago and were sent to France last month. A few days ago James wrote home telling how his brother Peter had been killed in action, and now a message has come that James has been wounded and is in the military hospital."

It appears his brother survived the war and reached the rank of Sergeant, his service number S/6364 was the very next after his younger brothers.

WW1
L.Cpl. William Todd, R.H.

Almost certainly the incorrectly initialled L.Cpl. J. Todd of the 1st Black Watch in the Perth Golden Book. There are not J. Todd's of the 1st Btn on CWGC/SNWM.

(The Scotsman 20th July 1915)
"Perth
L-Cpl. Todd, 1st Black Watch, died of wounds between the 19th an 21st June in Germany. L-Cpl. Todd who had been attached to the Black Watch for six years, went to France with his battalion at the outbreak of war, when he was wounded and taken prisoner. He is survived by a wife and young family.
"

Why no grave in Germany?...
