Sutherland Roll of Honour (c)
Location: Clyne Heritage Centre, Brora, Sutherland
OS Ref: NC 898 042

This roll of honour of those from Sutherland who served in the Great War used to hang in the local TA Drill Hall on Gower Street. It is now in the care of the Clyne Heritage Society.

It has a mass-produced look to it and I suspect the local paper, The Northern Times was involved in it's production.

Note the title says Sutherlandshire (c) and quick look into the names of those who died (marked with a cross against their names) shows that this only covers East Sutherland. The small number of Mackays listed is also a give away that a large part of the County is not covered by this Roll of Honour.
This raises the tantilising prospect that somewhere else Sutherlandhsire (a) and Sutherlandshire (b) Rolls can be found. I'll not hold my breath though...

I suspect this may have been completed shortly after the war so one of these days I'll have a trawl through the 1919-1920 Northern Times to see what I can find.

I see one of the two other rolls has turned up in Dornoch. It's not called Sutherlandshire (a) or Sutherlandshire (b). It's titled "Dornoch and District". See here:

Thanks

A similar roll with the title "Inverness and District (c)" has now turned up:

There is another copy of this roll held by the Helmsdale Heritage and Arts Society
