August 1916 edition of the Wigtownshire Free Press carries a report on the death of Private James Galloway Clark of Colmonell. The RoH carries the name James Clark but he is not highlighted as a fatality.

Here's the report: Intimation has been received by Mr William Clark, Colmonell, that his son, Private James Galloway Clark, 2nd Black Watch, has died in a hospital in Mesopotamia from the effects of heat. Private Clark volunteered and served as a trooper in the South African campaign, and was the recipient of a medal for bravery. At the outbreak of the present war he enlisted from Kirkmuirhill where he engaged as a miner. He was 36 years of age and leaves a widow and six of a family. Deceased was wounded several time.

He is also named on Kirkmuirhill Church memorial.

Additional Information: Son of Hugh Kelly, of 15, Drumellan St., Maybole, Ayrshire.

Memorial: Thiepval Memorial

Wigtownshire Free Press (30/8/1916): Driver Joseph Kelly, RFA, reported missing after 29 July, is now reported "died of wounds". Driver Kelly, previous to removing to Maybole, where he enlisted, was a resident in Colmonell. He received his education at the Public School, and was afterwards in the employment of Mr Crawford McCreath, baker. He was a happy dispositioned lad, and an all-round favourite. As a boy, he possessed a particularly sweet voice, and gave promise of developing into a fine singer. Another brother, Tom, made the supreme sacrifice in the spring of this year.

Driver Kelly is also named on Maybole War Memorial.
