There is a 3 light stained glass window memorial in Stamperland church. This was originally in Woodside church and is for Alf Webster, the stained glass artist killed in WW1, by his son Gordon.

St Thomas Methodist Church, Gallowgate war memorial(s).
This is probably a vain hope, but does anyone know what became of the war memorials from this church?

It stood at the corner of the Gallowgate and Wesleyan Street. It closed in 1973 and stood derelict for sometime.

There actually two war memorials - a plaque on the wall (possibly WW1 only) and a stained glass window. The stained glass window was one of a pair either side of organ and pulpit - the other celebrated the centenary in the early 1950s.

When the church closed its "legal"successor was Woodlands Methodist Church (the former St Johns congregation) but most of the remaining congregation went to Shettleston Methodist Church. The neither memorial is at either of them.

I posted this on the GWF some time ago and research by a number of people found no answer.

Unfortunately, that's not it. That is St Thomas's Gallowgate Church of Scotland. If I remember rightly about half a mile further east on the same side of the road.

There is a picture of St Thomas's Methodist just before demolition here:

(For anyone who knew the old Gallowgate it was opposite the Orient Cinema.

I attended a talk last Wednesday on stained glass and one of the items featured was an excellent stained glass war memorial window in Cadder church. Pretty sure we don't yet have this on the forum. The window includes a WW1 tank on the battlefield.

I'm guessing that this is the James Reid mentioned:

Captain
REID, JAMES
Died 25/09/1915
Aged 26
10th Bn. Highland Light Infantry
Mentioned in Despatches

Son of Sir Hugh Reid, Bart., of Belmont, Springburn, Glasgow. B.A. (Cantab).

Glasgow Museum's Resource Centre is not generally open to the public but tours can be arranged. I visited recently and managed to get a few previously unknown memorials. I know that there are many more including:

http://collections.glasgowmuseums.com/mwebcgi/mweb?request=record;id=221183;type=101

I am sure there are others, including a stained glass window that I have heard of.

If anyone is thinking of arranging a visit specifically to record these memorials, please let me know. Otherwise I may be able to return to this next year.

The "Memorials To Valour" website mentions a memorial to Piper Richardson VC in the Main Square at Bridgeton. Ken Morrison has kindly pointed out that the memorial is actually to three VC recipients, John Knox (Crimean War), Henry May and Piper Richardson (both WW1). It was installed 7 years ago. Not sure if it has been raised as a thread yet so, if anyone is in the Bridgeton area ....

On the University of Glasgow Roll of Honour for WW1 casualties there is a biography of Major Andrew Marshall Downie: https://universitystory.gla.ac.uk/ww1-biography/?id=1927. It lists the memorials that carry his name including a memorial flagpole: " A memorial flagstaff was erected in memory of Downie at the Glasgow University Athletic Club by Samuel Galbraith, Esq. The memorial plaque from this is currently held by the University Archives awaiting re-dedication."

Again from the University of Glasgow Roll of Honour, the entries for Ebenezer and William Maclay. The brothers were the sons of the University's patron, Lord Maclay, who donated the Maclay Hall and the University Chapel organ in memory of the brothers who were casualties of the First World War. It states, "In 1921, Lord and Lady Maclay donated their home at 17 Park Terrace to the University in memory of their two sons. Maclay Hall opened as a student residence at the beginning of the 1922–1923 session and closed in December 2014. It was the first hall of residence provided by the University of Glasgow for students. The Maclays also gifted the Memorial Chapel's original organ. It was designed by the University’s organist, A. M. Henderson and built by Henry Willis & Sons, one of Britain’s most distinguished organ builders, in 1928. Despite undergoing major renovation and rebuilding in 1977, the case, console and much of the pipe work is original."

Yet another from the University of Glasgow Roll of Honour. In the biography of Captain James Scott Marr, mention is made of the memorials which carry his name. One of these is Kirkside Church. I get no results from a Search Engine. Has anyone heard of it? https://universitystory.gla.ac.uk/ww1-biography/?id=151

Mike, he is commemorated on the Kelvinside UF Church. Possible typo in the bio?
