Anne - just for info, Philip was educated at Laurieknowe School in Maxwelltown and is named on the school memorial.

He was the nephew of John and Jane Paterson of 68 College Street, Maxwelltown. (D&G Standard 25/9/1918 p.3b)

McLEAN, PHILIP. PTE. K.O.S.B.
Philip Hall McLean – age 20 – Private (242750) 1/4th (Border) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
After his mother's death in 1909, Philip lived with his uncle and aunt in Maxwelltown and he was educated at Laurieknowe School.
Born 1897 in St. Nicholas, Aberdeen. Son of the late Margaret (McKinnon) McLean and of William McLean of Aberdeen.
Nephew of John Milne Paterson and Jane Ann (McKinnon) Paterson of 68 College Street, Maxwelltown.
Killed in Action on 1 September 1918. and buried in Honourable Artillery Company Cemetery, Ecoust – St. Mein, France.
Also named on the Laurieknowe School memorial.

ALEXANDER, W.M.C. PTE. GORDONS.
William Muir Cochrane Alexander – age 25 – Private (S/7850) 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.
William had been a gamekeeper in Kirkmichael, Ayrshire before he emigrated to Fort George in British Columbia, Canada. He returned home, enlisted at Liverpool in November 1914 and joined the 2nd Gordons in France in March 1915. He was posted to the 1st Battalion in November 1915.
Born 1892 in Dunure, Maybole, Ayrshire. Son of William Cochrane Alexander, late of Dalblair, Cumnock, Ayrshire and of Jane ( Muir ) Alexander of 1 Corberry Avenue, Maxwelltown.
Died of Wounds on 19 March 1917 and buried in Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, France.
Also named on the Kirkmichael War Memorial in Ayrshire, and on the St. George's Church Memorial in Dumfries together with his brother Robert Alexander – age 34 – Company Quartermaster Sergeant (T4/043616) Army Service Corps attached to “S” Company, Camel Transport Corps.
Died on Active Service on 13 May 1918 and buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel.
