Is it not rather surprising that Berwick's only WWII commemoration is the small plaque: "THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE BOROUGH WHO FELL IN THE 1939-45 WAR"? I'd have thought a place like this might've done more.

Incidentally I gave a presentation on local memorials to the Presbytery of Duns (it includes Berwick) earlier this week, after their scheduled speaker withdrew.

After it a gentlemen told me that a series of railings with shields had been put up around the Tweedmouth memorial, giving the names of individuals who died in WWII. Apparently they were unveiled during the summer.

Both the Berwick Advertiser 30/7/1915 p.5 and Berwickshire News 27/7/1915 p.5 (and other pages) refer to five brothers serving, most of whom had already served in South Africa. They were Daniel, George and James.
James was reported as killed in early 1915 while serving with the Seaforth Highlanders but I cannot seem to find any record for him.

In case he served under an alias I got a list of Seaforth Highlanders who died in early 1915 from the CWGC and excluded any that were buried at home (as I don't suppose they would be buried at home under an alias). I also excluded those who had family details listed as it would have listed Ann Hush as the mother. I then filtered it down to those with a name of James or an unknown initial J.

None of the 65 names look promising but if James Hush was killed as a Seaforth in 1915 he's either a non-comm or listed here under an alias. What was Ann Hush's maiden name?
