Lt. E.H.P. BRUNTON, R.A.M.C.

Named on the Bowden Parish Church memorial in Roxburghshire as:

ED.H.P. BRUNTON R.A.M.C.
Edward Henry Pollock Brunton – age 25 – Lieutenant, Royal Army Medical Corps attached to the 4th Battalion, Grenadier Guards.
Edward was educated at Fettes College in Edinburgh and at Trinity College Cambridge from where he graduated in 1910. He became a House Surgeon at the Royal Portsmouth Hospital and then House Physician at St. Bartholomew's in London. He obtained a commission in April 1915 and landed with the 4th Grenadiers in France in August but he was killed two months later during the battle of Loos.
Born 1890 in London. Son of Sir Thomas Lauder Brunton, 1st Baronet, and the late Lady Brunton, Louisa Jane Stopford (died 1909)
Sir Thomas, who died in 1916, was the son of James Brunton of Hiltonshill, Bowden and was born there in 1844.
Killed in Action on 8 October 1915 and buried in Vermelles British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Trinity College memorial.

Named on the Melrose War Memorial in Roxburghshire as:

CAPTAIN J.W.B. BOYD.
James Wilson Brack Boyd – age 46 – Captain, 3rd Battalion attached to the 2nd Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment.
James was educated at Cargilfield School and at Fettes College in Edinburgh before he began a career in estate management. In 1901 he was at Fyvie in Aberdeenshire but latterly he had spent seven years with Lord Allandale of Bretton Hall near Wakefield, Yorkshire, living in the Old Parsonage in West Bretton, and he gained a commission in the 3rd Y&L Regiment in September 1914. He landed in France in early 1915 but was wounded at Ypres in Belgium in April 1915 and evacuated home. After his recovery he was for some time in command of the Machine Gun School at Sunderland and had returned to his battalion as Captain in command of the 16th Trench Mortar Battery only few weeks before he was killed.
Born 1870 at Ormiston, Eckford, Roxburghshire as James Wilson Boyd. Son of the late Elizabeth Bell (Wilson) Boyd (died 1909) and of William Brack Boyd of Faldonside, Melrose (died 1918)
Died of Wounds on 16 July 1916 and buried in Brandhoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
Also named on the Cargilfield School and Fettes College War Memorials and on the West Bretton War Memorial in West Yorkshire.

Named on the Yarrow Parish War Memorial in Selkirkshire as:

LT. E. J. H. MACILDOWIE.H.L.I.
Reverend Edward John Howard MacIldowie – age 25 – Second Lieutenant, 1/9th (Glasgow Highland) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry.
Edward was educated at Fettes College in Edinburgh and at Edinburgh University from where he graduated with an Honours M.A. in 1912. He then began his divinity studies at Glasgow University and graduated B.D. in 1915. He was commissioned from the University's Officer Training Corps in November 1915 and joined his battalion on the Somme in July 1916 but was killed four months later.
Born 1891 in Barton Regis, Gloucestershire. Son of the late Rev. John MacIldowie (died 1898) and of Catherine Margaret (Williams) MacIldowie of 4 Logan Road, Bishopston, Bristol, of 12 Caird Drive, Partick, Glasgow and of Princes Road, Liverpool.
Ward of the late Rev. Dr. Borland of Yarrow, Selkirkshire.
Missing in Action on 1 November 1916 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.
Also named on the Yarrow Church memorial and on the Yarrow Roll of Honour at Yarrow Feus as Lt Rev E.J.H. MacIldowie, 2nd November, 1916, HLI, Yarrow Manse.
Also named on the Fettes College memorial, on the Old College memorial in Edinburgh University, on the Edinburgh University Roll of the Fallen, on the Trinity College memorial at Glasgow University on the Glasgow University Roll of Honour, on the Glasgow Roll of Honour and on the Church of Scotland memorial (Probationers and Students of Divinity) in St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
