Richard Lillico Turnbull – age 39 – Private (200946) 1/4th (Border) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Richard joined his battalion as Private (7676) in Egypt and served in Palestine where he was fatally wounded at Gaza.
Born 1878 in Berwick, Northumberland. Son of John and Martha (Lillico) Turnbull. Husband of Margaret (Anderson) Turnbull of Hangingshaw, Yarrow and of Green Street, Galashiels who he married in 1908 in Linton, Roxburghshire.
Died of Wounds on 20 April 1917 and buried in Gaza War Cemetery, Palestine.
Also named on the Yarrow Church memorial and on the Yarrow Roll of Honour at Yarrow Feus and on the Galashiels War Memorial.

Thomas Turnbull – age 23 – Private (2261) 1/5th Battalion (Queen's Edinburgh Rifles) Royal Scots.
Thomas was a joiner in Edinburgh when he enlisted in September 1914. He landed with his battalion at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 but he was killed a few weeks later.
Born 1892 at Yarrowfeus, Yarrow as Thomas Matthew Dalgleish. Son of Jessie Martha (Dalgleish) Turnbull and step-son of Thomas Turnbull of Springfield, Yarrow, Selkirk who married in 1895 in Yarrow.
Missing in Action on 4 June 1915 and named on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
Also named on the Yarrow Church memorial and on the Yarrow Roll of Honour at Yarrow Feus.
THOs. YELLOWLEES. SCOTS GREYS.
Thomas Yellowlees – age 21 – Private (10385) 9th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
Thomas was a gamekeeper with the Earl of Wemyss at Cramalt Lodge, Megget, Cappercleuch, Yarrow when he enlisted in the Royal Scots Greys. He was posted to the 8th Black Watch in France in July 1915 before joining the 9th Battalion.
Born 1896 in Yarrow. Thomas and Isabella (Scott) Yellowlees of Winterburgh, Ettrick, Selkirkshire.
Missing in Action on 28 September 1917 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.
Also named on the Megget War Memorial in Cappercleuch, Yarrow as Pte. Tom Yellowlees, Black Watch, on the Lyne and Meggat Roll of Honour in Lyne Kirk, and on the Yarrow Roll of Honour at Yarrow Feus, on both as Thomas Yellowlees, RS Greys, Cramalt, and on the Ettrick Parish War Memorial as Thomas Yellowlees, Black Watch. |

1939 – 1945
SERGT. DONALD JOHN ROSS WILSON. R.A.F.
Donald John Ross Wilson – age 24 – Sergeant (527234) 8 Squadron, Royal Air Force.
8 Squadron had been based at RAF Khormaksar in Aden since 1927. On 5 August 1940, Italy invaded British Somaliland, and 8 Squadron's Bristol Blenheim bombers flew missions against advancing Italian troop columns. Donald's aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision with another Blenheim and they crashed into the sea. All six crew were lost.
Born 1916 in Cambuslang, Glasgow. Son of Alexander and Robertina (Ross) Wilson of Yarrowfeus, Selkirkshire.
Missing in Action on 10 August 1940 and named on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
Also named on the Yarrow Church memorial and on the Yarrow Roll of Honour at Yarrow Feus. _________________ Ken |
