Located in St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh at OS Map Ref NT 259 735

Not listed on UKNIWM

This is one of 5 memorials to individuals sited in the old organ loft which is not accessible to the public. My thanks to the museum staff for allowing me exceptional access to take the photos. I am guessing that these memorials may not have been read (or cleaned) for perhaps 100 years!

In memory of Major General Sir Robert Henry Dick KCB & KCH
Of Tullymet
Who was killed at Sobroan on the banks of the Sutledge on the 10th of February 1846
while gallantly leading his division within
the enemy’s trenches.
This lamented officer was Lt Col Commanding the 42nd Highlanders
for 14 years & served with it in the Peninsula and at Waterloo
This tablet is erected by the officers and retired officers of the 42nd
as a tribute of the high esteem & regard they entertained for him
as a kind friend and a gallant soldier

The Dunkeld Cathedral memorial mentions he was commanding the 3rd Division at Sobraon

Here are the troops he commanded

Third Infantry Division: Major General Sir Robert Dick.

5th Brigade: Brigadier Ashburnham; HM 9th, HM 62nd and 63rd BNI.
6th Brigade: Brigade Wilkinson; HM 80th, 33rd and 63rd BNI.
7th Brigade: Brigadier Stacey; HM 10th, HM 53rd and 49th and 59th BNI.

This was taken from this website which also gives an account of the battle
