St George's Church Second World War Memorial
Location: St Andrew's & St George's Church, George Street, Edinburgh
OS Ref: NT 254 741

There are several memorials in the vestibule and up the staircases of this church. I've listed this as the St George's Church memorial but that may be incorrect

UKNIWM is no help to confirm the identity of the memorial. The only info is that it is made of oak. The location has not been updated and there is no record of the inscription or count of names, but it does refer to an entry in The Scotsman on 7 Nov 1949. UKNIWM Ref: 8734 if it is this memorial but the UKNIWM record certainly needs to be updated.

Checking the other memorials in this church I'm confident it has been identified correctly.

This is the former St George's Church, now West Register House in Charlotte Square.

A direct front elevation picture of St George's Church (West Register House) building is not easy, so I cheated and used an ultra-wide-angle lens for this shot from September 2006. It was taken from within Charlotte Square gardens which were open that day for some Festival event that was taking place there.

The WMR record is now fully updated. By the end of this week (19 April 2020) WMR should finally have all the known memorials in Edinburgh not only on the system, but also fully updated.
At that stage all memorials from Gretna to Edinburgh via the West Coast, Shetland and back down the East Coast will be in, and down through the Scottish Borders. That will 'only' leave The Lothians and across the Central Belt back to the Ayrshire Border and Loch Lomond yet to update- that 'only' is many months work yet, but real progress is being made.
