Now this should be simple but.............
On the WM for the Parishes Anwoth and Girthon in Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire is GEORGE TOOGOOD, DURHAM L. I.
Can you find him?

The only George Toogood I can find on scotlandspeople is on the 1911 census - aged 16 - but in Kinghorn, Fife.
Nothing so far in local newspapers.

Thanks to some determined detective work and research by Margaret at Gatehouse Folk - http://www.gatehouse-folk.org.uk/ww1.asp?rec=toogood - GEORGE TOOGOOD has been identified as:

George William Toogood – age 22 – Private (27815) 25th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers
George's father Thomas owned a travelling fairground amusement business and his mother Louisa provided a catering service. From their base in Morpeth, Northumberland the family toured around northern England and southern Scotland during the summer months and in early part of the war they were at Gatehouse-of-Fleet when their traction engine(s) were requisitioned to help with the war effort, after which they remained in Gatehouse for some time. During this period George enlisted for the army.
Born 1894 in Balrothery, County Dublin, Ireland. Son of Thomas and Louisa Toogood of 23 King Street, North Shields, Tynemouth, Northumberland.
Missing in Action on 28 April 1917 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.
Also named on the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain Memorial at the National Memorial Arboreteum, Staffordshire.

With Margaret's permission here's a bit of the message she sent to me:

"Quite by chance in a doorstep conversation last year a lady, who used to work in the fish shop/green grocers in Gatehouse, mentioned the fact that the shop used to supply a wreath for the Toogood ‘circus’ people. My ears pricked up immediately. The wreath was always bought by a Norah Henderson who died a long time ago now. The Hendersons were a very big Gatehouse family but nowadays there are none left.

She remembered that a cousin lived near Creetown. Recently I bit the bullet and made an effort to contact the cousin and she in turn contacted her sister and another cousin and with the information they remembered between them, I have managed to piece together George Toogood’s story"

A very happy happenstance!
