Ian Nairn's father, John, was a linoleum manufacturer and funded the construction of Kikcaldy War Memorial (which carries Ian Nairn's name) and the town's art gallery. A childhood portrait of Ian Nairn can be seen in the gallery. The Nairn factory is still in business in Kirkcaldy, once dubbed the Linoleum capital of the world.
