GEORGE SCOTT Pte. 1/4 K.O.S.B. 17th JULY 1915.
George Scott – age 22 – Private (7241) 1/4th (Border) Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
George was a ploughman and assisted his father in the management the farm at Longformacus Mill until he enlisted in November 1914. He landed with his battalion at Gallipoli in June 1915 but he was fatally wounded a month later during the battle at Achi Baba Nullah. George died on the Hospital Ship “Rewa” and was buried at sea.
Born 1893 in Longformacus as George Robertson Scott. Son of Adam and Barbara (Patterson) Scott of Longformacus Mill.
Died of Wounds on 17 July 1915 and named on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.


WILLIAM BLACK THOMSON Pte. BLACK WATCH. 4th NOV. 1918.
William Black Thomson – age 21 – Private (S/14199) 13th (Scottish Horse) Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
The family came to Longformacus from Roxburghshire in about 1915.
William died in the 12th Casualty Clearing Station at Busigny.
Born 1897 in Morebattle, Roxburghshire. Son of John and Alice Ann (Fairbairn) Thomson of Byrecleugh, Longformacus and of Bushelhill, Cockburnspath, Berwickshire.
Died of Wounds on 4 November 1918 and buried in Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension, France.


GEORGE WOOD L/Cpl. BLACK WATCH. 9th MARCH 1919.
George Wood – age 26 – Lance Corporal (S/6541) Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) transferred as Corporal (373382) to the 750th Area Employment Company of the Labour Corps.
In 1911 George, aged 17, was a horseman living with his family at Greenhope Farm in Cranshaws Parish. He joined the 8th Battalion of the Black Watch in France in May 1915 and at some point was transferred to the Labour Corps. George died in the Royal Infirmary in Manchester.
Born 1893 in Cranshaws, Berwickshire. Son of James Renwick Wood and of Sibbly (Allan) Wood of Crawlaw, Wedderlie, Westruther, Berwickshire,
Sibbly Allan was born in Longformacus and many of the family are buried there.
Died on Service on 9 March 1919 and buried in Longformacus Parish Churchyard. (CWG)
