Location in St Margaret's church, New Galloway
Capt Sanderson is also listed on the civic memorial at Parton, the church memorial in St Margaret's, New Galloway and has a further individual memorial in Parton Parish church.
I tried to find Archibald Sanderson in the 1901 census (he would have been aged about 14) but no sign of him in Scotland. His parents were living locally with 7 servants.

I 'may' have him in the 1901 English census at Uppingham Boarding School, Rutland;
Archibald J Sanderson (15) Student. He was born in Aldershot
This is from Uppingham Schools website:
The buildings of the School continued to expand. 450 ex-pupils died in the First World War and the School Hall was built in their memory |

That looks like him. Could not link him with the other Sanderson officers though, perhaps a generation or two back. I'll leave that to someone else I think.

Archibald James Sanderson – age 29 – Captain: 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.
Archibald was commissioned in the KOSB in 1906. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1908 and to Captain in November 1914 and had served in Egypt and India. In August 1914 the battalion was in Lucknow and returned to the UK in December. In March 1915 they sailed for Gallipoli and Archibald was wounded during the landings at Gallipoli on 26 April 1915. He died on board the Hospital Ship “Sicilia” and was buried at sea.
Born 1886 at Farnham, Surrey. Son of Colonel Patrick Sanderson and of Mary Margaret R. (Spens) Sanderson of Glenlaggan, Parton and of Ardlaggan, New Galloway.
Died of Wounds/Buried at sea.– 2 May 1915. _________________ Ken |
